Our Beliefs

AI Literacy
We believe in equipping our students and staff with the knowledge, skills, and mindset necessary to understand and utilize AI technologies responsibly. AI literacy includes learning how AI works, its capabilities and limitations, and its ethical implications.
By integrating AI literacy into our curriculum, we aim to foster critical thinking, problem-solving, and innovation to prepare students for future opportunities in a rapidly evolving technological landscape.

Ethical Use
We are committed to the ethical and responsible use of AI in our schools to enhance teaching, learning, and decision-making. All users - students, educators, and staff - should engage with AI critically, applying the HAIH (Human-AI-Human) framework to ensure its use supports and extends human capabilities.
We recognize that AI is not free from bias and commit to ongoing evaluation and monitoring to minimize disparities. Our focus is on equitable access to AI tools and learning opportunities, ensuring that all students and staff have the resources needed to engage meaningfully in an evolving digital landscape.
Building a culture of trust, we will engage openly with our school community about both the benefits and limitations of AI. We prioritize transparency, fairness, and accountability, ensuring that AI integration aligns with our district’s values and is implemented in a way that is ethical, inclusive, and student-centered.

Integration With Learning
We believe in thoughtfully integrating AI as a supportive tool to enhance teaching and learning. AI-powered tools can provide personalized learning experiences, streamline administrative tasks, and offer real-time insights to support individualized instruction. Effective learning relies on human engagement, critical thinking, and collaboration, and we recognize that AI is not appropriate for all educational goals or tasks.
To ensure meaningful integration, we are committed to providing our educators with the training and resources needed to incorporate AI effectively into their classrooms in ways that align with pedagogical best practices and student learning needs.

About Us
This group evolved from the Superintendent' Student Advisory committee for the 2023-24 school year. Artificial Intelligence was identified as key area of interest.
Our journey with AI began on our staff technology day in August 2023, when we introduced the concept through a Learning Loop. Our staff participated in surveys in both August and mid-year to gather initial feedback. We also extended our research by surveying all secondary students from grades 6 to 12. The insights from these combined surveys helped us identify three key focus areas: Literacy, Ethics, and the Integration With Learning.

Survey Responses
RSD Teacher
"Today, everything is about searching, and every device is built for it. It would be awesome to educate our students about how to explore and improve their lives by learning how to navigate with proper and appropriate use of AI as AI is the new norm of the future."
RSD Student
"AI is a tool in my opinion. A tool is supposed to help with whatever you're working with. The AI that we have now lacks personality and human spirit, but it does provide a "skeleton" to work with. It should help students, or just people in general. AI shouldn't take over and be feared, it should be welcomed and studied."
RSD Student
I believe AI when used correctly can be a very helpful tool. I have a hard time learning sometimes and AI helps me a lot. I believe it is just another advancement in the world like how people thought books would rot your brain, then it was the internet, then cell phones, then social media. It’s just another advancement in life. A new resource."
